Rebirth looks at how mental illness translates into societal, mental and physical restrictions on the body, and how by breaking these chains we can search for new meaning and constructs. In a world marked by collapse, ecological, emotional, mental or societal, the concept of refugia emerges as both metaphor and method, refugia are places where life survives in the midst of destruction. In the context of mental illness, particularly bipolarity, refugia become internal sanctuaries, states of mind, moments, or practices where one can survive emotional extremity, make meaning, and begin again.
